Well i can say this, i used an 07 Ford F250 6.0 diesel to haul an empty 16' round top cargo trailor this weekend to Virginia and the damn thing bested 9.8 mpg the whole way there and about 13.8 unloaded coming back, driving easy with the cruise on. F the ford, im gettin a cummins, i know for a fact they get WAY better fuel economy...

the 6.0 was fords biggest mistake ever. built that dually for my friend and that has the 7.3. its ok, nothing to write home about speed wise.

wasn't there 7 ford motors? 6.9, 7.3N/A 7.3 powerstroke 1 7.3 powerstroke 2 99+, 6.0, 6.4, 6.7spider.
cummins had 4 DIFFERENT diesgns since the early 90's
5.9L 12 valve (gen 1)
5.9L 24vavle (gen 2)
5.9L common rail (gen 3)
6.7L (gen 4 and current)

ford has do the following
6.9/7.3 N/A same model year, so counted as the same imo
7.3 power stroke (turbo)
6.0 powerstroke
6.4
6.7 releasing in 2011(to meet smog in 2013)

next question?

the 6.9 and 7.3 are different bore engines. 87 was the 6.9 88+ was the 7.3

also there was a 7.3 idi powerstroke and a 7.3 di powerstroke.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powerstroke_Diesel

the term "powerstroke" was giveing to the 7.3 after 94, when they gave it a factory turbo, nothing before is a powerstroke motor, and all previous motors are IDI. all diesels (ford)after that were direct injection
